WRAP ICED TEA SALES

Boyds introduced new iced teas in each of the past three years: Earl on Ice, Citrus Spice Iced Tea, and Island Mist Iced Tea. Those three specialty iced teas, along with our traditional Fresh Brew Tea, are included in the current tea and cold beverage sale.

Island Mist Iced Tea

Boyds Island Mist Iced Tea (code @!$*) is a naturally sweet blend of tropical fruit flavors. Regular and decaffeinated teas are mixed with the natural and artificial flavors of several tropical fruits. Island Mist Iced Tea is sugar-free, yet sweet enough that drinkers will not want to add sugar. It also contains less caffeine than regular tea.

Island Mist Iced Tea can be directly compared with Paradise Original Blend. When our R & D staff test marketed the tea with flavor panels in Portland, enough of the panelists favorably compared Island Mist with Paradise to convince us that our new flavored iced tea is as good, or better, than Paradise.

Citrus Spice Iced Tea

Boyds Citrus Spice Iced Tea (code @!#&) is a premium-quality, exotic, fruit-flavored iced tea. The aromatic, low-calorie iced tea is healthy and refreshing. Citrus Spice Iced Tea is a naturally sweet, distinctive blend of black teas with the subtle essence of orange, cinnamon, and cloves.

Earl on Ice

Earl Grey is a favorite traditional tea. Boyds Earl on Ice (code @!^^) is specifically intended for iced tea. It has a mild bouquet with a lavender fragrance. Earl on Ice contains bergamot oil. The aromatic oil comes from the rinds of the sour, pear-shaped fruits that grow on bergamot trees.

Consumers who enjoy Earl Grey tea will consider Earl on Ice to be a delicious treat, perfect for accompanying a meal in a restaurant.

Each of our specialty iced teas yields one gallon when poured over ice. There are six one-ounce brew bags in a package, packed eight per case. The poly-pouches used for all three teas keep the tea fresh for six months to a year.

Fresh Brew Tea

Boyds Fresh Brew Tea bags contain a pure blend of black tea leaves. They produce a consistent, clear amber brew, and the taste of classic black tea. The codes are: #$~! (50/1-oz.), #&*! (48/3-oz.), and #~$$ (48/4-oz.).

Our Fresh Brew Tea and envelope (for hot tea) teas are “brighter” and cleaner than competitors’ teas, and more astringent than most. Astringency in tea is equivalent to sharpness and acidity in coffee; a certain level is desirable. However, there is no substitute for a demo. Individual tastes do vary.

Ice the Sale

We use different blends of tea for each of our regular and flavored tea products. Tea should always be served fresh. Tea will cloud when refrigerated, and our tea will cloud faster than competitor’s black teas because it contains more soluble solids.

Iced tea drinks are traditionally garnished with a slice or chunk of lemon, and consumers expect to have the option of adding lemon juice to their drink. However, the specialty iced teas can be garnished with other citrus fruits, fresh tropical fruit, brightly colored straws, or an exotic flower to allow a restaurant to create a “signature” drink.

Iced teas are easy to demo. A busy restaurateur might be delighted to take a quick break for a refreshing glass of iced tea. Iced tea produces cold cash; it is one of the most profitable items restaurants offer, even in the off-season.
