Jason Schmidt was always expected to be great, and his statistics suggest that he was a late bloomer, rather than that he was helped by the ballpark. His strikeout ratio increased radically. Schmidt had season-ending surgery August 17, 2000 to repair partial fraying of his rotator cuff and other shoulder damage. He began the 2001 season on the disabled list with an abdominal strain. His improvement followed recovery from those ailments.

Russ Ortiz went from 18-9-3.81 in 3Com to 14-12-5.01 in PacBell. His ’02 and ’03 numbers are so consistent that they do not reflect a guy pitching in a different home ballpark.

Mark Gardner spent his last two seasons in PacBell. His ’00 numbers don’t look too bad because he split time between starting and relieving.

None of the relievers show a meaningful pattern. Felix Rodriguez developed into a dominating pitcher, but that had nothing to do with the stadium.
